Work experience

Senior Engineering Program Manager

Northrop Grumman Marine Systems – Sunnyvale, CA | Jul 2018 to Present

  • Leading a team of 25-35 engineers on a program developing an extremely complex state-of-the-art underwater payload launcher system with a highly aggressive schedule. Helping define program and product strategy to deliver highest customer value.

  • Developing and managing a $25M+ budget, schedule and technical performance targets in an ambiguous environment; identifying risks & developing mitigation plans, and ensuring smooth execution of the program.

  • Managing communication across highly cross-functional and geographically distributed teams; acting as a liaison between numerous engineering functions, program management, manufacturing, operations, procurement, third party vendors, industry partners, customers and other stakeholders.

  • Developing best practices & engineering processes to effectively manage fast-paced & dynamic development programs across the organization.

  • Providing weekly status to Executive Leadership by synthesizing information from teams across the program.

  • Key Achievement: Successfully reduced concept to prototype timeline to 10 mo. (typically 3 yr.) on one defense program, and concept to low-rate production timeline to ~3 yr. (typically 5+ yr.) on another defense program by partnering with sister programs across the organization, working closely with customers and challenging the status quo. Set a benchmark for other similar development programs.

Mechanical Engineer

Lockheed Martin, Space Systems – Sunnyvale, CA | Oct 2016 to Jul 2018

  • Ensured smooth execution of a rocket motor production program, surfacing risks and issues affecting production and speedily bringing them to resolution.

  • Developed tactical and strategic plan to secure the future of the program by improving manufacturing reliability, reducing cost, improving rocket motor performance and mitigating issues like product obsolescence.

  • Led mitigation of critical risks and identification of new risks in close collaboration with customer & key vendors.

  • Executed new contract actions, generated statements of work, developed proposal and basis of estimates, processed budget development and modifications, and ensured accurate flow of contractual information with customer and suppliers.

  • Key Achievement: Reduced rocket motor production cost by $2.5M per unit and cut program risk by 30%, by improving propellant chemistry and manufacturing process. Achieved this without any additional resources by synergizing with planned and funded features being implemented in the existing roadmap

Thermal Systems Engineer

Siemens Energy, Inc. – Orlando, FL | Jun 2015 to Oct 2016

  • Created thermal design of large combined cycle power plants (CCPP) & led significant redesign of subsystems.

  • Developed and flowed down subsystem level requirements from high-level customer requirements.

  • Provided testing and development support for validation & verification of CCPP and cogeneration power plants

  • Key Achievement: Achieved 3% higher efficiency and 30% higher performance in CCPP, adding an estimated value of $20M over the life of the plant, by leveraging technologies from other Siemens divisions and acquisitions. Extended capabilities of existing product line, adding tremendous value for the company and giving the company a competitive advantage.

Engineering Development Program

Siemens Energy, Inc. – Orlando, FL | Jun 2014 to Jun 2015

  • Conducted root cause analysis and failure analysis of gas turbine combustor and auxiliary components.

  • Developed unique engineering solutions and user-friendly computational tools using MATLAB, one of them being a Data Management System for acquisition and analysis of large thermo-acoustic datasets that saved hundreds of engineering labor hours.

  • Performed on-site assessment of gas turbine equipment to determine requirements and establish appropriate course of action for modifications, upgrades and issue resolution. Yielded $3M in customer saving by resolving equipment issues

Graduate Research Assistant

Georgia Institute of Technology – Atlanta, GA | Jan 2011 to May 2014

  • Played a key role in developing a conceptual design for harnessing space based solar power using a gigawatt level satellite based on a closed Brayton cycle.

  • Conducted research in the fields of ultrahigh temperature ceramics, graphene, carbon nanotubes, and spectroscopy for application in space based solar power

  • Conducted testing and probability assessments to weigh the cost effectiveness and reliability of auto-ignition in offshore oil rigs.
